Walking Tour of Historic Fort Snelling and Hike to Coldwater Creek
About this event
Oct 7, Wed {WW} Walking Tour of Historic Fort Snelling and Hike to Coldwater Creek. Meet at 9:45 a.m. in front of the Plank Visitor Center, 200 Tower Ave, St. Paul, MN 55111 {612-726-1171}. The Historical Society will lead us on a 60-minute guided walking tour of historic Fort Snelling. The Visitor Center will open at 10 a.m. and the tour will begin then. This is the Historic Site on top of the bluff -- not in the State Park, which is below the bluff. This walking tour is an overview of the site's history, touching on the thousands of years it was inhabited before the Army came west, the construction of the fort and lives of soldiers, Dred & Harriet Scott, and much more. The tour is free for members of the Minnesota Historical Society and others {see https://www.mnhs.org/historical-tickets/50126963459}, but will cost $10 for non-members. Parking costs $6 for non-members and is discounted for MNHS members. Fees are collected on an honor system at the Visitor Center. After the tour of the historic Fort, those that want to hike for about an hour can walk to Coldwater Spring and back. We can then eat our picnic bag lunches. The Visitor Center will be open for viewing the main exhibit and additional displays.
