This winter debuted the club's
first tropical trip. Even dyed in the wool (Or is it polar fleece?) winter
lovers
enjoyed the opportunity for a February tropical
hiking trip. The following is a condensed trip report -
for the
complete report see Ellen's article in the
March/April LOYPE.
Accomodations were in two very different parts of the
country - beach and interior jungle. The beach portion included
beach hiking and snorkeling on the
Placencia Peninsula on the Caribbean coast. Participants were welcomed by
monkeys, dolphins,
stingrays, manatees, and
more.

Jungle hikes
included destinations such as Butterfly Waterfall with an icy blue
swimming hole at its base. A local guide
with a machete cleared their
way.

Another
jungle hike included a special treat - a visit to the Mayan ruins at
Caracol. A local guide shared with the participants the
rich history and culture of
Belize.
